Neuroprotectant

A neuroprotectant is a substance or agent that helps to protect neurons (nerve cells) in the brain from damage or degeneration and can potentially slow down or prevent the onset of certain neurological conditions or diseases.

Neuroprotectants can act in a variety of ways, including reducing inflammation, promoting cellular repair and regeneration, and preventing oxidative damage. They may be used as a therapeutic intervention in conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke, traumatic brain injury, and other neurological disorders.

Examples of neuroprotectants include certain medications such as memantine, which is used to treat Alzheimer’s disease, as well as natural compounds like resveratrol, curcumin, and omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil.
